Running along the bottom edge of Epping Forest and with the River Ching flowing through it, Chingford is a town with a great deal of history. The River Ching name is even believed to prove that the area has links to royalty.

Ching is old English for ‘king’ so the belief is that the river’s name is from it being seen as the King’s River. The royal links continue with Chingford being the location of Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge. Built by her father, Henry VIII, in 1543, it was a place for the royals to watch the deer chase.
