Whether you are heading to some far-flung paradise or staying closer to home, packing for some time away can be a stressful task.
What do you really need? What is the weather going to be like? How many outfit changes are you really going to have throughout the day? Do you really need 12 books?
We can’t answer any of these questions BUT we can give you some space saving tips for packing your suitcase.
Choose the right suitcase
Choosing the right suitcase is vital. You could be a packing ninja and still struggle with the wrong type of suitcase.
The best type of suitcase are the hard case ones as they have a stiffer shape making it easier to pack. A hard case suitcase will also protect all your belongings.
Take an inventory and prioritise
Make a list of everything you are wanting to take with you, starting with essentials such as underwear.
This is the step where the 12 books you were thinking of taking may be shrunk down to one or two but you will be grateful when it comes to carrying your suitcase!
Roll your clothes
Clothing will be taking up the most space in your suitcase and a great way to minimise the space used is to roll your clothes.
Roll each item as tightly as you can and layer them along the bottom of your suitcase.
Along with saving space, rolling your clothes allows you to see all the clothes you have without having to look through layers of folded clothes.
Utilise all the space
Socks, underwear and any other smaller items – put them into your shoes! This is a great way to utilise an otherwise empty space.
Go travel sized!
Unless you are going away for months there is no need to bring full sized shampoos, body washes etc.
You can buy travel sized toiletries – but a great and cost effective way to go travel sized is to buy empty travel sized bottles and fill them up at home with your favourite toiletries.
Have multi-purpose/versatile items
Choose to bring clothes that will work in multiple outfits.
Neutral-coloured clothes are a great way to achieve this and you can bring some sparkle with some nice statement jewellery, which is smaller and takes up very little space.
If you are a planner, you could even plan all your outfits for each day or event which will mean you only pack clothes you need.
Wear bulky items
This means jackets, coats, jumpers – wear these to travel in. It will leave space in your suitcase and it will stop your suitcase from being as heavy.
And make sure these items are easy to take off in the plane/train/car, so you can make sure you travel comfortably.
We hope you have found our space saving tips helpful. Happy travels!
