Getting to live in the beautiful seaside town of Brighton comes with a lot of perks, one of them being all the exciting water sports you can take part in. But what if you don’t have room for all the equipment? Our storage in Brighton will help.
Brighton is a city which is alive with people and activities, making it a place which many people flock to visit for a weekend and even more choosing to study and/or move to this exciting city. The range of activities on offer range from festivals to music to the museums and art galleries.
And this is all before we even get to the beach.
Ideal for sitting, soaking up the sun, Brighton’s beaches are an amazing place to take part in water sports, such as kayaking and paddling and ,of course, surfing. Brighton is a great place for surfing and it is particularly good for beginners.
With its beautiful pebble beaches and vibrant art and music scene, Brighton is a city that has something for everyone.
Where is best to surf in Brighton?
Brighton Marina is an excellent spot as it is one of the only places in the city that has the power to warrant using a shortboard. This is a fact that is well known by many people and so it can get very busy. Due to the power and with it breaking onto a fairly shallow chalk reef, this is a spot that is not safe for beginners.
West Pier is the classic surf spot in Brighton and has had people surfing on it since the 1960s. West Pier is the best spot for beginners as it has slow, gentle waves, breaking at low to mid-tide. It is also within the city centre so it is an excellent location for having a dip before you start your day.
The Hot Pipes are another area which is not really suitable for beginners as it has tough reef breaks. Located near Shoreham Power Station, it is just outside of central Brighton so the furthest you would need to travel in order to surf in Brighton.
When is it best to go surfing?
Oddly enough, the ideal time of year to go surfing in Brighton is autumn and winter. This is due to the fact that it is best when there is a strong south-westerly wind blowing which occurs in autumn and winter.
In the summer there is high pressure overhead and you can actually go weeks without being able to surf. So, you will have to be ready yourself, with all the right equipment, for some cold water when you surf in Brighton!
Speaking of equipment…
Surfing does require some necessary equipment. The actual surfboard is a good place to start, but you will need to decide if you want to go for a longboard or a shortboard. Then, there are the wetsuits, the fins, a leash, wet/dry bag and, with Brighton being better in autumn and winter, it would probably be a good idea to invest in some boots and gloves.
If you are thinking of giving it a go or would like to get back to it but worry about finding the room for all the equipment, our storage in Brighton will be of help.
