The Lionesses made history once again, by getting an England team to a World Cup final for the first time in 57 years. They are also encouraging more and more young women to play football, creating a demand for good football coaching. If you are an in demand football coach and are in need of a place to store equipment, our self storage Watford will help.
After watching the Lionesses win the Euros in 2022, many young girls were inspired to get involved with football. Local football teams have seen a large increase in the amount of young women turning up, wanting to play.
In 2020-21, Ilkley Town AFC had one under 11s team for girls. In 2023, there are now six teams for girls aged 7 to 11 and they have a total of 302 women and girls playing with the club across fourteen teams.
Making changes
The Lionesses have not only inspired an increase in women being more involved in football, they have also spearheaded a campaign to make sure girls got access to football whilst at school.
Penning an open letter to the UK government, calling for young girls to have access to the same sports as young boys, the Lionesses have helped create real change for the next generation of young girls.
Schools now must deliver a minimum of two hours of PE each week and girls will be granted equal access to all school sports and extracurricular activities. These new measures are being backed by £600 million in funding over the next two academic years.
This is wonderful news for all the young girls who want to play football and become the next generation of Lionesses. But with more and more young girls wanting to play there needs to be more coaches, more facilities and more equipment.
With research showing that a large percentage of young women fall out of love with sport due to inadequate opportunities and facilities, it is vital that girls have the opportunity and the right facilities and equipment to learn and play.
If you are a football coach and you are desperate to bring your coaching to more young girls and women but lack the space for the added equipment needed, our self storage Watford will help.
